GOSPEL
Scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:1-2a, 3-4 - Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures (The word of God/Bible), 4 that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
Key Terms:
Gospel - a good message, good news, to bring good tidings/news, bring a good message.
Saved - safe, to save, deliver or protect (literally or figuratively), heal, preserve, do well, be (make) whole.
Sin - to miss the mark (and so not to share in the prize), your faults, to err (error), to offend, to trespass.
Description:
There are three basic components of the Gospel (the good news) that we as Christians believe in (put our trust in):
1. Jesus lived a life without sin (errors/wrongs),
2. He died on the cross to save (rescue/deliver) us from our sins (punishment for our errors/wrongs)
3. He rose (came back to life/ got up from the grave) on the 3rd day
•Sin generally means to “miss the mark” or to offend. It means to miss the bullseye. We missed (did not meet/did not obey/did not choose) the laws/rules of the word of God (The Bible/The Scriptures).
•God’s word says there is a payment/punishment for disobeying His word and that payment is death, BUT there is GOOD NEWS (the Gospel)!
•Jesus came and lived a life where He ALWAYS obeyed the Bible (The Scriptures). Jesus then died and took the punishment for us on the cross.
•After 3 days in the grave, He rose (got up from the grave) with all power and authority! Now because He lives, we can live a life free from the punishment of sin (error/wrongs) and be with Jesus forever! THAT IS GOOD NEWS!!!

SALVATION
Scripture:
Romans 10:9 - because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Key Terms:

Confess - to say the same thing as another, to agree with, assent, to say openly from the heart.
Saved - safe, to save, deliver or protect (literally or figuratively), heal, preserve, do well, be (make) whole.
Two-step process:

2. Confess = (to agree with the truth/fact and say it openly) with your MOUTH that you agree that He is your LORD and He rose from the grave on the 3rd day = being saved (delivered and protected from eternal separation from God)
Description:
We believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We believe that Jesus lived a perfect life without sin, died on the cross for our sins, and rose on the 3rd day.
•If you BELIEVE this truth from your HEART and CONFESS with your MOUTH, you will be SAVED!
a. Believe from your heart because Jesus wants your heart. HE WANTS YOU!
b. Confession with your mouth is the outward action/confirmation of what is in your HEART.

BAPTISM WITH WATER
Scriptures:
Matthew 28:19-20 - Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Romans 6:4 - We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Key Terms:
Disciples - a learner, pupil (student), one who follows teaching (we follow Jesus’ teachings)
Baptism - to immerse, submerge; to overwhelm (i.e., fully wet), to wash.
Death - the death of the body, the separation of the soul from the body, the life on earth is ended.
Life - the state of one who has the ability/energy to live (vitality) or have movement or motion (animate), breath.
Description:
•We are commanded to make DISCIPLES (learners, followers, students) of Jesus. Disciples of Jesus are commanded to be BAPTIZED (to be immersed in water).
•As DISCIPLES, we follow Jesus in His DEATH (when He died on the cross) and we follow His LIFE (when he rose from the grave, resurrection) to live a new life like Him.
•Baptism has two parts:
-Being dipped/immersed in water = death/buried
-Being brought out of the water = new life/resurrection
•Baptism outwardly shows that we die to our old selves (old desires to sin, living for our sin, body of sin) and are brought into a new life having the ability and desires to live like Jesus, who lived a life without sin (errors, wrongs).

BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Given at the day of Pentecost, we believe the Holy Spirit is the promise of the Father available to all Christians. We believe it is received through true repentance and belief on Jesus Christ as the scripture has said. It was sent by Jesus after His Ascension to empower all the Church to be witnesses of him and some to preach the gospel throughout the whole earth.
In scripture, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is initially received with the sign of speaking in tongues (three types: new tongues, other tongues, unknown tongues [all can be interpreted by the spirit if the gift is present]) and followed by the evidence of the fruits of the spirit. We believe in all operations of the Holy Ghost found in Ephesians 4 and 1 Cor. 12 including the casting out of demons.
Acts 1:4-8
Acts 2:1-4, 37-39
John 7: 37-39
John 14:15-17
Rom.8:9
1 Cor. 12: 1-11

JUSTIFICATION
Scripture:
Rom 10:9-10 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is JUSTIFIED, and with the mouth one confesses and is SAVED.
Rom 5:1 Therefore, since we have been JUSTIFIED by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Key Terms:
Justified (made righteous) - to make one just (right) or innocent, be made right, to declare or pronounce one to be right, or put someone into the place/position they should be, the state of being acceptable to God.
Believe - to have faith in, faith upon, to trust, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being in Christ), to commit, put in trust with, to put faith in.
Faith - a committed, fixed, confident, proven belief (conviction) in something, when one is convinced of something so much that they rely/depend on what they believe.
Description:
•Through our FAITH (a committed, confident, proven BELIEF) in what Jesus did for us on the cross (His death), we are no longer considered wrong (sinful) before God.
1. Jesus who was ALWAYS RIGHT, took our wrongs (sin) and died on the cross, which is the payment/punishment for sin (error/wrongs)
2. By FAITH (a committed, confident, proven BELIEF) - we give our wrongs to Jesus and Jesus gives us His JUSTIFICATION (righteousness)
•Instead of punishing us for our wrongs, Jesus took the punishment (death) for us, making Him the person who is declared wrong.
•By receiving Jesus’ gift on the cross (salvation/saving us from punishment), we are made/declared as JUSTIFIED (RIGHT) and no longer have to pay for our wrongs (sin).
Rom 10:9-10 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is JUSTIFIED, and with the mouth one confesses and is SAVED.

•Jesus’ work on the cross was perfect (complete/finished).
•Jesus completed/finished what we could not do (He lived without sin)
2.As disciples (followers) of Jesus, we are being sanctified daily.
•Jesus’ word (the Scripture/the Bible) commands us to live holy/separated (sanctified) lives apart from sin (error/wrongs)

•We live our lives separately (consecrated) for God.
•We live holy (separated/honored) lives because we belong to Jesus.
By the blood of Jesus, we are going through sanctification!
First, we are sanctified (holy/separate) because of the finished (perfect) work of Jesus on the cross. Secondly, as followers of Jesus, we are given the Spirit of God which helps us to live sanctified (holy/separate) lives every day.

FAITH
Scripture:
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Key Terms:
Faith - is a committed, fixed, confident, proven belief (conviction) in something, when one is convinced of something so much that they rely/depend on what they believe.

Believe - to have faith in, faith upon, to trust, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being in Christ), to commit, put in trust with, to put faith in.
Description:
FAITH is when you are willing to BELIEVE (commit to/trust) something because it is supported/firm (ASSURED) and proven/tested (CONVICTION) to be true.
• You are ASSURED (firm, steady, confident) that it will support you. Like standing on a concrete floor (a firm foundation), you know you can stand on it without sinking.
• You have CONVICTION because you know that what you believe has been tested and proven to be true.
• FAITH is:
• the firm foundation (ASSURANCE) of the things you hope for
AND
• Proof (CONVICTION) of things you have not seen yet.
So, we as Christians have faith because we have proof and a firm foundation because of what Jesus did on the cross. So, we can confidently have FAITH in Jesus.
